Inspire Me Thursday
Create and use, recognize, absorb, tap into, explore all five senses:
Sight: A dark night with a spattering of sparkling stars. The dim light in my room. Hard to distinguish true color, you need to use your intuition. Broken fingernails from scratching, soaking and scrubbing. Water pooling from my soda cup--if it gets on my paper, it will just add texture.
Touch: Scratchy paint staining my nails and hands. The fabric starts out soft, too thin and becomes thicker and rough, more like paper. I experiment with a sea sponge to paint the fabric. Water runs down my arms. I smear the paint and water with my fingertips and feel the heat from the iron drying the fabric.
Smell: The noxious odor of solvent based ink. Acrylic paints. A musty smell from the old fan. Smoky smell of drying paint.
Sound: Listening to melancholy music. Let the lyrics linger and listen to that one song over and over again. Keeping an ear out for a crying child. Hearing Soren wake up and cough again. The dryer spinning through the garage door. Locusts sounding like large birds flying against the darkened window pane.
Taste: Syrupy sweetness of my favorite soda. The taste of blood as I nervously bite my lip.
Stamped and painted fabric. Possibly just the beginning of another piece, another night. See samples from other artists here.
