Alphabetica Project
I finished up a new art journal for a round robin I am participating in inspired by Lynne Perrella's book Alphabetica. I made the book basically using Teesha Moore's instructions here. I've made several of these and love the stability and also adaptability of these simple books. The fabric spine is the key. I added a piece of cardboard to my spine to give it extra strength since our books will literally be traveling all over the world over a pretty long time period. I also Scotch Guarded the fabric just in case!
Our theme is letters, typography, and also numbers so I decided to go with the number thing for my cover. The flower image is a stencil that I drew and painted with watercolors. I was going for a paint-by-number look. Do you remember doing these?? I wonder if they are as much fun as an adult as they were when I was a kid? The cover came together really quickly so I decided to spend a little more time adding lots of texture to the back.
Here is the inside pages cut from watercolor paper and sewn in 5 signatures. Of course, when the book returns to me, it will be filled with the artwork of 26+ incredibly talented ladies. I can't wait!!

Beeeeeeautiful!!!!

This is so beautiful! I think I will want to learn how to put together a book like this! It looks complicated though!

It looks wonderful. I love the colors and what you did with the spine...

The colors, design and materials you chose are just absolutely beautiful. The paint by number design is very inspired and fits the theme of your challenge well. I LOVED paint by number as a kid so I may be a bit biased. Thank you for the kind words you left on my blog. You should definitely try a hand at the project from Liz Berg, it didn't feel anything like quilting and looks much more like what you're creating here. I'm thinking I need to hang out with you collage artists more.
